What is EU Customs Duty

1. What is changing for orders shipped to the European Union?

Starting from July 1, 2026, the European Union will apply a customs duty to certain low-value goods imported from outside the EU. This means that some orders shipped to EU countries may include an additional customs duty. Due to the shipping transit time, Yoycol will start collecting the customs duty from June 25, 2026.

2. What is customs duty?

Customs duty is an import charge applied when goods are brought into a country or region. It is separate from VAT and may apply depending on the destination country, product type, customs classification, and declared goods value.

3. Which orders may be affected?

This may apply to orders that meet all of the following conditions:

  • The order is shipped to a country in the European Union.

  • The goods are shipped from outside the European Union.

4. How much is the new EU customs duty?

Under the temporary EU rule, a customs duty of €3 may apply per customs-classified item for imported goods. The final amount may vary depending on the products included in the order and how they are classified for customs purposes.

For example, if an order contains multiple products that fall under different customs classifications, the customs duty may be applied more than once.

5. Is customs duty the same as VAT?

No. Customs duty and VAT are different charges.

VAT is a consumption tax applied in the European Union. Customs duty is an import charge applied to goods entering the EU. Depending on the order, both VAT and customs duty may apply.

6. Does this apply to all EU countries?

Yes, the EU customs duty rule applies to imports into European Union member states. However, local procedures, carrier handling, and VAT treatment may vary by destination country.

7. Does this apply to non-EU European countries?

Not necessarily. Countries outside the European Union may have their own import rules, VAT rules, customs duties, and carrier fees. These rules may be different from EU rules.

8. here can I see the duty amount for my order?

If customs duty applies, the amount may be shown during checkout, or in the order summary.
