What is Direct-to-Film Transfer Printing?

DTF printing applies designs onto a special PET film using CMYK + White inks, then heat-transfers them onto garments using a hot-melt adhesive powder. It works on almost any fabric type and color, making it one of the most versatile print methods.

Care Instructions

  • Machine wash inside-out in cold or warm water
  • Tumble dry on low heat
  • Do not bleach
  • Do not iron directly on the print

DTF FAQ

Is DTF better than DTG?

DTF is more versatile (works on any fabric), while DTG has a softer hand feel on cotton. DTF is often preferred for dark garments and polyester. DTG is preferred when a "printed into the fabric" feel is critical. Both produce excellent results at 300+ DPI.

How durable are DTF prints?

DTF prints are highly durable — lasting 60+ washes with proper care. The hot-melt adhesive creates a strong bond, and the print has excellent stretch resistance, making it suitable for activewear and sportswear.

Can DTF print on polyester?

Yes — this is one of DTF's biggest advantages over DTG. DTF transfers bond well to polyester, nylon, spandex, and all synthetic fabrics, making it the preferred method for sportswear and activewear.

What is the cost difference between DTF and DTG?

DTF is typically 15-25% less expensive per unit than DTG, especially for dark garments (DTG requires pre-treatment). DTF's cost advantage increases for polyester and mixed-fabric orders.

Does DTF work on dark fabrics?

Yes, DTF excels on dark fabrics. The white ink layer is built into the transfer film, so no garment pre-treatment is needed. This makes DTF faster and more cost-effective than DTG for dark garment printing.

What file should I submit for DTF printing?

Submit a PNG file at 300 DPI with a transparent background. The design will be printed on PET film and heat-transferred. No bleed area is needed as the film is cut to the exact shape of your design.
